    New gas main being laid in my Road

    in General Discussions

    It has made parking a problem as they have blocked some drives and outside my house they hit the water main so that we had a nice muddy swimming pool to have a dip in. This seems to have affected the telephone line as there is so much noise on the line you can hardly have a chat. My broadband keep switching off, so my supplier has activated my 4G mini hub. It works fairly well.

    Sorry to hear about your problems. Yeah, we had new gas lines put in 2-3 years ago. That was a pain. All of the digging and breaking strips of road, etc.

    I'd just as soon do away with gas in favor of all electric. But I live in a mild climate so heating is not expensive. These electric oil-filled radiators are terrific in mild climates.

    Not big problems and the gas workers are brilliant. They are putting new plastic pipes through the old metal ones which is fascinating to watch

    @Craig Long Dot loves gas for cooking and I even arranged a special main supply in for our old home which only had electricity supply. We were number 1and the rest of the road soon followed suite.

    I may go for one of these new 5G home internet services when they are offered.

    This is another alternative:

    The mini hub is an emergency back up if the Internet goes down and when 5G is more available I'm sure they will upgrade the hubs. I cannot really fault BT my service provider.

    @Dave Sutton - I know you're a bit older than me, but you're not concerned about the potential health risks of 5G? I don't know them off the top, but I had found a handful of scientific articles explaining such.

    @David Lazarus Who knows really?

    Well, I read enough to make me hesitant to want to upgrade to 5G. Heck, I don't even own a 4G phone yet. I don't have a smartphone. I do own a wifi-only Android tablet.

    I'm quite happy with my wired internet so I'm not looking for a replacement yet.

    The potential health problems have been around for years and as an Amateur radio enthusiast I have been very close to powerful radio emissions on VHF and UHF which are supposed to fry your brains. It could explain a lot 😣

    I wish Pluspora/Diaspora had decent search capability. I'd post the scientific links that I found. It'd take me forever to find them; even using a search engine to start from scratch because there's so much garbage out there.
