    Magium Characters Project

    in General Discussions

Speaking of new projects, I started work on the main characters of the Magium adventure series last month. Although I am doing it for pleasure, I am in contact with the developer. I have completed drafts of two characters so far; Barry (the half-lesathi) and Daren (aka Healer in Armor). Note that I have not used any props yet and Daren is not currently wearing armor. However, his scar is there. That was a challenge. Barry's hair and their clothes were also challenging to get to look real as opposed to a plastic action figure. I'm still not altogether happy with Barry's hair, but it looks much better than it did at first. I am using Daz Studio Pro (a freemium 3D character modeling app) to create these. Being that my budget is very limited, I am also using Genesis 2 figures as that is the latest one that includes face and body morphs without having to purchase them separately. I'm also trying to find free stuff on sharecg.com and renderosity.com to use for props. I have not been able to find armor just yet. At least not that would fit the books' description. I have decided to do the main characters in order of appearance. Therefore, Eiden (the Stillwater) is next in line. However, I have taken a break to do a re-work of a scene with two characters in it that I did several years ago. It's shaping up to look much better than it did. I had to redo the lighting as well as the clothing for one of the characters. I shifted gears because I think doing this will help me with the Magium characters in the long run. There are going to be many challenges ahead as there are twelve main characters. Well, ten, really. However, one person has a banshee fused with her soul and there's a dragon. There are several other, but they play more supporting roles and the story isn't centered around them. Magium is a great series if you like fantasy in a classic RPG type setting. The characters are very well thought ought and you really grow to care about what happens to them. It is a choose your own adventure series. Thus, you get to make choices every so often that can have significant effects on how the story proceeds. Please let me know what you think of my work . . . and be honest. I accept constructive criticism. If you know how I can make something look better, let me know. Thanks! Barry

Years ago I had a program on my spectrum 48k computer called The Hobbit where you had to make choices as the adventure continued. I must admit that I have not played anything like it since and as I love this sort of adventure, would find all my time would be taken up with it. Your renderings are excellent!

@Dave Sutton @Craig Long @Corinne Howell - Thank you for the compliments.

@Dave Sutton - Being that you enjoy that sort of thing, I highly recommend Magium. Yes, you can definitely re-read it multiple times making different choices. I just dedicate an hour or so before bedtime to reading. That way it doesn't interfere with other things that I need to do.

Speaking of old computers, my first real computer was a Commodore 64. In addition to gaming, I did write my own programs. Nothing as extensive as a game. Just fun little projects that I could generally complete in less than a day. Though it might have been cool to write a game. Heck, who knows, I could have made some big bucks. A cousin of mine did just that back in the early 80s. It was called MasterType.

@Craig Long - You have a computer that actually meets the Win11 requirements? Wow! I think I'd have to upgrade both my mobo and CPU to qualify. So, that will have to wait. I'm in no rush though.

My computer does not meet the official requirements but Windows 11 can be installed anyway. I don't really like it much yet. It does run Android apps from the Amazon App Store and from the Google Play Store but you have to go through some hoops to install the Google Play Store. There is a good YouTube video that shows you how to upgrade to Windows 11 from 10 on unsupported hardware. The upgrade kept all my files and apps installed which made it easy to upgrade. I can try to find that video if you want. But Windows 11 is not officially recommended for unsupported hardware.

I did indeed, and got an answer. Cos it's in Beta there are problems, which I have had for months but this page is not so important now that I have better exposure on Giphy and Twitter.
