Sometimes when Dot is weeding the garden, she will give out a big scream. I will know immediately that she has found a frog, they like to pay us a visit from next door's pond, but she has very little problem with spiders and insects.
A few years back, we lived in a house that had hot air heating in ducting that run around the house, now that was a breeding place for some of the biggest spiders I have ever seen.
Looks like I will have to do a bit of research on companion planting, my neighbours do that sort of thing because they grow loads of vegetables and fruit
Snails & frogs legs.. Poor 🐸( is there a hospital for legless frog's?!!)😆
After watching the slugs in my garden & HOME😡 i really cannot abide them, I'm not over fond of many creepie crawlies,
(A few nights ago, there was what i thought was a spider . it disappeared under tv table to emerge at the top of a rolled up rug.. boy .. was it big.. I managed to capture it in a plant pot..so i could release it n/day.. Sat back down, suddenly an orchid plant i have started shaking it's leaves...wtf..!!😯 next thing a massive cricket jumped out..omg.. I managed to put it in a bag, again to put out n/day.. I got a neighbour to do the spider and did the cricket myself.. A few hrs later upon returning home.. low and behold if the damn thing was there trying to get in again..( i didn't realise how big they where either..??)(i was really brave.. honest😂)
As for Dots foray into toms etc.. She might like to take a look at companion planting.. You plant things to deter the insects etc away from your crop eg.. Chives/onions near carrots, there's a lit of books out there on the subject, so I'll assume there could be loads on internet too, one thing i would advise is not using slug pellets near anything you intend to eat.. Nasty chemicals...
Again regards to you all ...catch up again soon. :0)
The nice thing about those little toms is they are usually quite sweet & taste nice.. Well done Dot.. For first attempt thats not bad.. Personally i can't stand raw😝 toms.. (except the little ones), but i like them cooked..!!
Now SLUGS on the other hand i detest with a vengeance!!! How the hell do they get into my house..?? (Funnily enough this was a topic on # checkin on p/pora..!!))
Whenever we grew toms we'd do the in big sacks instead of the ground, (we had an allotment when lived in Batt's)(no gardens on the 15th floor😂)
We'd put them up on a raised platform, it didn't stop all the pests getting at them, but it certainly helped rather than being in the ground....
Going back to the slugs.. I cannot figure how on earth they are getting in.. So my next plan is to try copper tape, which is meant to deter them.. Dot might want to investigate this tape too..
We no longer bother with marigolds because even with putting slug pellets down, they got eaten. They were eating three new clematis plants, but now I have put gravel down around them, it has put a stop to that. We are still eating runner beans virtually every day and still have loads growing.
In Cyprus they cook snails in Ouzo, I wonder if you can do the same with slugs?
@Dave Sutton That is too small. Try growing a bigger variety of tomatoes. I used to grow some big ones. I was lucky to get to them before these worms did:
